What happens at your appointment
Book a time that suits you
Use the calendar above. Tell us in the notes if you have a particular problem, or if it is for a child or for driving, so we allow time for it.
A thorough examination, by people who know you
You see the same two opticians every visit, not a different face each time. Our optometrist checks your vision, your prescription and the health of your eyes, inside and out. Patients call it “very comprehensive and thorough”.
Your results, in plain English
You leave understanding what was found and what, if anything, you need. If you do need glasses, we measure you with the Essilor Visioffice X so the lenses are made for your face and your frame.

Not just another number
“I’ve never been a fan of the big high street chains where you feel like just another number being pushed through the system. Winstanley was the complete opposite. The turnaround on my glasses was far faster than I expected, without compromising on quality.”
“I had no idea that a greater field of vision than my existing lenses was even an option, or that technology to measure my frame and lenses to fit so accurately existed.”
“Their technology to get your prescription spot on is like something from the future. No pushy suggestions to upgrade. Frames to suit every budget, and 0% payment plans without credit checks.”
Common questions
Booking an eye test, answered
Do I need to book an eye test?
Yes, please book so we can give you proper, unhurried time. Repairs, adjustments and glazing do not need an appointment; just call in.
How much does an eye test cost?

Where can I get an eye test in south Liverpool?
At Winstanley & Son, 252 Park Road, Dingle, Liverpool L8 4UE, opposite Tesco Extra, with free parking outside. We are five minutes from Toxteth and Aigburth, and about ten from the city centre. Private eye tests, or free on the NHS if you qualify, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Book online or call 0151 726 0622.
How long does an eye test take?
Allow around 30 minutes. We do not rush it, and you leave understanding what was found.
Will I see the same optician each time?
Yes. It is the same two of us every visit, so we know your eyes and your history. You are never passed to a different person each time you come in.
Can I book an eye test for my child?
Yes. Under-16s get a free NHS sight test. Pick any time in the calendar and add your child’s name in the notes. If your child is short-sighted, ask about Stellest myopia control lenses.
Can I book an eye test for today or tomorrow?
Often, yes. The calendar shows live availability, so if a slot is there, it is yours. For anything urgent, call us on 0151 726 0622 and we will fit you in where we can.
Do you do eye tests for driving?
Yes. Tell us when you book and we allow the time. If you need to show a driving standard of vision, we can confirm it after the examination.
What should I bring?
Your current glasses, any recent prescription, and a note of any medication you take. If you think you qualify for an NHS sight test, bring proof of the benefit or exemption if you have it.
Where do I park?
Free on Park Road right outside the shop, and free at Tesco Extra opposite with no time limit. The entrance is step-free.
What if I need to change my appointment?
Text or WhatsApp us, or call 0151 726 0622, and we will move it. As much notice as you can manage helps us offer the slot to someone else.
