Varilux is the original varifocal and still the most fitted in the world. We are an independent Essilor practice on Park Road, and every Varilux we make is measured on Essilor’s own Visioffice X, then fitted by Gavin.

The Varilux range
Essilor invented the varifocal in 1959. Varilux is still the benchmark. Three designs cover most people:
- Varilux XR series, the top of the range. Designed with eye-tracking data on how people actually move their eyes and head, so the clear zones are where you look, including when you are moving. Our recommendation for anyone who has struggled before, or who wants the widest, most natural vision.
- Varilux Physio, wide distance and near zones with sharp contrast, a very good all-rounder for screens and driving.
- Varilux Comfort Max, the everyday Varilux, designed for easy adaptation and relaxed posture. Ideal for first-time wearers on a budget that still want a proper Varilux.

The clearest anti-glare Essilor makes. Reflections almost gone, easier on screens and at night.

Essilor’s toughest coating. For people who are hard on their glasses.

How we choose your Varilux
Your eyes and your day
The eye test tells us your prescription. The conversation tells us the rest: screens, driving at night, reading in bed, the workshop, the golf course. That decides the design, not a price list.
One recommendation, explained
We recommend one Varilux design and say why. If a simpler design or another manufacturer suits you better, we tell you that too. Coatings such as Crizal anti-glare and Transitions light-reactive lenses are options, not defaults.
Measured, made, fitted
Measured on the Visioffice X, made by Essilor’s UK lab, usually back within 48 hours. Gavin fits them on your face and refits them free until they are right.
Other lenses we fit
Varilux is not the only answer. We also fit Nikon varifocals, and Zeiss and Hoya designs. If you are not sure which is right, read which varifocal lens is right for you, or just book and ask.

Which Varilux lens will I get?
It depends on your prescription, your frame and what you do all day. After your eye test we recommend one design and explain why. If a simpler, cheaper lens will do the job for you, we say so.
Do you fit Varilux with the Visioffice?
Yes. Every Essilor varifocal we make is measured on the Essilor Visioffice X in your chosen frame. The measurements go to the lab with the order, so the lens is made for your face, not a standard one.
How long do Essilor varifocals take?
Usually within 48 hours of your eye test. Some designs and tints take a little longer and we tell you at the time.
Are Essilor lenses included in the varifocal offer?
Yes. The current offer of free lens upgrades applies to Essilor varifocals as well as our other ranges.
How much do Varilux varifocals cost?
It depends on the design, your prescription and the coatings you choose. Ask when you book and we give you a clear price before anything is ordered, with nothing hidden.
What if they don’t feel right?
Come back. We refit and adjust them on your face free of charge, as many times as it takes.
