Broken glasses: repair or replace?
Repairs
Just call in, no appointment needed, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Minor repairs to glasses bought from us are free. Glasses bought elsewhere: minimum charge £10, and you get a gift voucher for the same amount towards a future purchase. See glasses repairs.
New lenses in your frame
Scratched or broken lenses? If the frame is sound we fit new lenses to it, including varifocals.
A new pair, fast
Single vision glasses from stock lenses can often be made in about an hour, subject to lens availability, and usually the same day. Varifocals usually take around 48 hours. See same day glasses.
Lost your glasses and your prescription?
A prescription less than two years old, from any practice, is all we need to make a new pair. If your last eye test was with us, we already have it. If it was somewhere else, ask them for a copy. If it is older, or things look different, book an eye test and we will go straight on to your new glasses.
Are replacement glasses free on the NHS?
Children under 16: yes, however they were broken or lost, as often as it happens.
Adults: only if you are entitled to an NHS voucher and a medical condition caused the loss or damage, such as epilepsy, dementia, arthritis, Parkinson’s disease, a stroke or a learning disability. We ask the NHS to approve it before we do the work. Full rules and the NHS list of conditions: free NHS eye tests and glasses.
Saved the day
“Gavin repaired my severely damaged glasses after I sat on them. He saved the day, I was able to drive the following day for an important assessment.”
“I’ve never been a fan of the big high street chains where you feel like just another number being pushed through the system. Winstanley was the complete opposite. The turnaround on my glasses was far faster than I expected, without compromising on quality.”

I’ve lost my glasses. Do I need a new eye test?
Not if you have a prescription less than two years old, from any practice. If your last eye test was with us, we already have it. If it was somewhere else, ask them for a copy. If your prescription is older, or your sight has changed, book an eye test and we can go straight on to the new glasses.
Can I get replacement glasses on the NHS if I lose or break them?
Children under 16 can, however it happened. Adults can only if they are entitled to an NHS optical voucher and a medical condition caused the loss or damage, such as epilepsy, dementia or Parkinson’s disease, and the NHS approves it before the work is done. We make the request for you. See the full rules on our NHS eye tests and glasses page.
Will the NHS pay for my child’s broken glasses?
Yes. Children under 16 get an NHS voucher to repair or replace their glasses however they were broken or lost, as often as it happens, with no approval needed.
My glasses were stolen. What can I do?
Glasses Club members on the Pro and VIP plans are covered for loss and theft, and every plan covers damage. You pay an excess, not the full price. If you are not a member, we can make a replacement pair from your prescription.
Can I insure my glasses so this doesn’t happen again?
Yes. Glasses Club covers scratched, damaged, lost or stolen glasses depending on your plan, with no contract. You pay an excess when you claim, never the full price.
