Gavin Winstanley, frame maker
Gavin designs and cuts every bespoke frame in the Park Road workshop, and fits the varifocals himself. He has been making eyewear on Park Road since 1998. Patients say he “really knows his stuff” and “has actually taught me how to wear my glasses”.
You will see the same small team every visit, who get to know you and your eyes.
“Lunetiers” on our sign is the French word for spectacle makers. We still cut and build frames by hand, which is rarer than it sounds.

We measure properly
Your lens position is measured to your eyes and your frame with the Essilor Visioffice X digital measuring system. No felt-tip dots on the lens, no ruler, no standard template. As one patient put it, “their technology to get your prescription spot on is like something from the future.” Why not a felt-tip pen?
We make the frame to fit you
Every bespoke frame is designed and cut by hand in our workshop from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate, with a three-year guarantee. If a stock frame doesn’t sit right, we build one that does.

Before you book
Do you do NHS eye tests?
Yes. We see private and NHS patients. If you qualify for an NHS sight test, for example if you are over 60 or receive certain benefits, your eye examination is free.
Is there parking?
Yes. There is free parking right outside on Park Road and free parking at Tesco Extra opposite, with no time limit.
How quickly can I get glasses?
Single vision glasses from our stock lenses can often be glazed in as little as 1 hour, and always the same day, subject to lens availability. Varifocals are usually ready within 48 hours.
Do you make your own frames?
Yes. We design and cut bespoke frames by hand in our Park Road workshop from Italian Mazzucchelli acetate. We are the only bespoke frame makers in Merseyside.
Can I spread the cost?
Yes. We offer 0% finance over six months. Ask in the shop or when you book.
Do you sell designer brands?
Yes. We stock the major brands including Tom Ford, Giorgio Armani and Ray-Ban, alongside our own handmade frames. Lenses from Essilor, Nikon, Zeiss and Hoya.
